There’s a lot you might not know about Dr. Medianick that makes him the dentist and individual that he is. He certainly is not your average American dentist! We think that you’ll be as fascinated as we are by his extraordinary story.
Dr. Medianick was born in Kiev, Ukraine, and he grew up under the Soviet, communist system. His family refused to join the communist party because of the party’s stance on religious intolerance to certain Christian beliefs. This meant that Dr. Medianick was treated in many ways as an outcast among his peers and teachers. One teacher told his classmates not to be friends with him, and he was the target of class bullies. His principle at one point refused to provide him with medical attention after a serious accident while at school. No one who was not part of the communist party was permitted to go to college, so higher education was not even a possibility for him there. But Dr. Medianick didn’t allow all of this to crush him.
Life changed radically for Dr. Medianick at age 13 when his family was granted religious asylum by the United States. A whole new world opened up to him at that point. He worked hard to learn English and excel at school, all the while working after school hours and intensively studying piano and saxophone. College was now a possibility, and he dreamed of studying dentistry. In Ukraine, he remembers hiding to avoid going the dentist. When he came to the United States, he was amazed at the quality of the dentistry!
He became the first person in his family to graduate from college. He then went on to dental school where he scored an impressive 100% on his clinical dental boards, and obtained many more clinical patient hours than were required. After graduation from dental school, he gained work experience at two dental practices that were ranked at the top of dental practices nationwide. It eventually became apparent to him that he wanted to have his own practice, so in 2009 he acquired Clark and Speicher Dental Associates, and renamed it Boulevard Dental Associates.
There are many things we can learn about someone from their career accomplishments, but even more can be learned from their character. Dr. Medianick definitely loves what he does as a dentist, but he loves his family more. His wife and children describe him as consistent, very present, and the one who brings them all MUCH joy. His faith continues to be a constant in his life, and he serves in a leadership position in his church. The difficulties of his younger years did not embitter him; they have motivated him to appreciate what he has today and to not take anything for granted.
Dr. Medianick is the real deal. Who you see in the office is who he is at home, among friends, and in the community. Our office and community are definitely blessed because he is in it. Thank you, Dr. Medianick, for being who you are!
