Daily oral hygiene is crucial, but sometimes it isn’t enough to prevent cavities, periodontal disease, and bad breath. Povi-One is an oral antiseptic that can help. Read below to find out what it is, how it works, information about its effectiveness, and how to apply!
What is Povi-One?
Povi-One is an oral antiseptic used to kill the bacteria in the mouth associated with cavities, periodontal disease, and bad breath. It contains Povidone-Iodine, a widely used antiseptic product.
How it works:
When used monthly, Povi-One helps limit bad bacteria from forming in the mouth and from sticking to tooth surfaces.
Effectiveness:
Numerous studies have found that the topical application of 10% Povidone-Iodine suppressed bad dental bacteria. No studies have reported any adverse side effects or teeth staining, and the taste and application have been shown to be well tolerated by patients.
Application:
Povi-One includes six monthly treatments. There is one ampule for each month, each containing 0.45 ml of 10% Povidone-Iodine. This dose-controlled applicator makes at-home application simple.
Instructions:
- Store ampules at room temperature
- Screw the separate brush end into the ampule until you hear a “pop,” which opens the ampule
- Dry teeth with a tissue and swallow excess saliva
- Squeeze the ampule over a tissue to wet the bristles
- Brush a light layer of Povi-One on all teeth and along the gumline
- Do not over-apply – often wetting the bristles before applying is sufficient
- Do not squeeze the ampule while applying to the teeth
- Continue to rewet the bristles over a tissue between each section
- Keep mouth open for 10 seconds, and then spit out the excess
- You do not need to use all of the iodine – you will likely have extra in the ampule when finished
- Discard after use
- Do not eat, drink, or rinse for 10 minutes
