How Well Do You Know Your Dental Assistant?

This month we celebrated Dental Assistants Recognition Week! You may often see dental assistants, Kiley, Lori, and Alma, when you come into Boulevard Dental, but chances are, you don’t really know them. These three ladies assist Dr. Medianick with dental procedures such as fillings, crowns, and extractions, and also disinfect the operatory rooms, sterilize instruments, etc. Kiley and Lori, our Expanded Function Dental Assistants (EFDA), can even restore, finish and polish teeth. In short, they are all invaluable to our practice because of their skills, their years of experience, and most importantly, because of who they are!

Kiley (EFDA):

Kiley is an assistant who knows what she wants! She knew early on that she wanted to go into the dental field, as she liked going to the dentist office when she was young, and she liked the hours of the job. She even started working in a dental office when she was about 16-years-old! From grades 10-12, she attended Berks Career and Technology Center for dental assisting, and then went to Harcum College to become an Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA). Kiley has worked at Boulevard Dental since 2009 and she most enjoys the family atmosphere of the practice. She recalls a funny story when working with the late Dr. Clark. She said that he once got up to do a consult with a patient, and he slid his chair back right next to the air water syringe. It shot out across towards her and over the patient! Outside of dentistry, Kiley enjoys spending time doing outdoor activities with her husband, three daughters, and extended family.

Lori (EFDA):

Lori is an assistant with many, varied interests and talents! She has been a dental assistant for almost 30 years, and went to Harcum College to become an Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA). She also attended Penn State University for 7 years to study science and psychology. She said that if she wasn’t a dental assistant, she would be a nutritionist, as she’s interested in the medicinal effects of food and would like to aid people with cancer to improve their diets. She and her husband Jim, founder of the Reading Science Center and a downtown business owner, attend many functions to help with the revitalization of the city, including fundraisers for the Reading Science Center, Fire and Ice Festivals, and more. Outside of work, Lori enjoys attending her children’s many sporting events, reading, traveling, and running her personal clothing business, “Always Be Nice.”

Alma:

Alma is an assistant who loves what she does both at work and at home! She has worked almost 10 years in the dental field, and graduated from Berks Technical Institute (BTI) with an associate’s degree in dental assisting. She says that all dental procedures are interesting to her, but lately, extractions are her favorite. “Everyone is just so friendly,” she says of Boulevard Dental. “We all treat each other like family.” She is also a huge asset to the practice in that she is fluent in both Spanish and English! In her free time, she enjoys doing things with her husband, her two young children, and her mom, such as going on walks with them, going to the park, gardening, movie nights, workshops with her kids, and much more!

Kiley, Lori, and Alma—Boulevard Dental would not be the same without you! You all excel in your skills, you are excellent with patients, and you make every day more special at the practice because of what makes you, you. We are so thankful to know you!
