Teeth Whitening

What is Teeth Whitening?

Teeth whitening is a simple process by which whitening gel breaks down tooth stains. This causes the color of the stain to be less concentrated so that your teeth look brighter and whiter.

Why is Teeth Whitening Used?

Teeth whitening is among the most popular cosmetic dental procedures because of how greatly it can improve the look of your teeth. It helps to remove both stains and discoloration.

The Procedure:

  1. A tray, similar to an athletes’ mouth guard (but thinner and smaller), is filled with whitening gel material.
  2. The patient is asked to wear their tray filled with whitening gel for one to two hours a day for several days.
  3. The patient follows the maintenance schedule recommended by their dentist to help retain tooth brightness.
  4. If tooth sensitivity is experienced, it is usually recommended to delay treatment, and then try again. In most cases, this sensitivity is temporary.
